The bossess

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

I have surprisingly little to complain about my bossess these days.

She used to write extremely interesting, even hilarious (to me and my colleagues), emails, but at the moment she is very calm and unobtrusive. I don’t even hear funny stories from my co-workers about her banging her keyboard on the table because she is incapable of delegating anything worthwhile to us and therefore constantly overworked. I’m sure she is still constantly overworked, but since I hardly see her, I’m not affected by the results.

So this section of my blog stays comparatively empty for now. Let’s hope it stays that way. Although one of these days I just might dig into the “noteworthy correspondence”-folder I set up in Outlook and let the world partake in some very fond memories from way-back-when the bossess inspired me to name a section of my blog after her.

Garlicky Hasselback Potatoes

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Hasselback Potatoes are one of those dishes I’ve been meaning to try out for a while now, but never got around to it because it always seemed easier to just boil and mash the potatoes I had. And I adore mashed potaoes. They’re my favorite food at the moment. Especially with some roast garlic and cream cheese in them. And nutmeg. I love nutmeg. It’s important.

Anywho, I finally made Hasselback Potatoes last week, and since they were a success and are bound to be made again by me, I thought I’d share. Because sharing is nice. And being nice is important. Like nutmeg.

Turning a Mango into the Sydney Opera House

The title of this post may be an exaggeration, but that’s actually what this way of preparing a mango always reminds me of.

Fluffernutter Cookies

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

On Sunday, I stumbled upon the recipe for these yummy-lookin’ cookies which go by the delightful name of “Fluffernutter”, and they had me at “three ingredients”.

I hadn’t consciously heard of the famous Fluffernutter Sandwich that seems to be relatively popular in the US until I went to buy the ingredients for these cookies and read about the sandwich on the jar of marshmallow fluff. Now that I’ve tasted the cookies, I’m beginning to understand the sandwich’s popularity and I shall embark on a journey to bring this sticky delight to the breakfast, lunch, and dinner tables of Germany. Sunday, Spicy Sunday

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Something good happened to me today.

Very spontaneously, I went to a spice exhibition with Hubby and a couple of friends. Yes, spices. Exhibited. When my friend first mentioned it I didn’t really know what to expect, because… spices!? I mean, you could just go to the supermarket and have a good look without paying 10,-€. She was a bit offended when I told her this, I’m afraid. Well, she’ll forgive me. And I have to admit it was a worthwhile experience (okay, “experience” is a bit of an exaggeration but you know what I mean). (more…)

The Secret is in the Sauce

Friday, May 14th, 2010

… even if the sauce does not consist of anthropophile’s delight (in case you don’t know the movie, I’m not gonna spoil it for you by naming it) but of another very special ingredient. Introducing

Beurre Noisette

The best one-ingredient-sauce you’ll ever meet. (more…)

Niece (Gesundheit!)

Friday, May 14th, 2010

The most recent most bestest thing that happened to me is my niece.

I like babies fine, you see, but I’m not one of those women who go “ooohhh, where’s the ittybittylittleboopiepoooooo?” before going “THEREsheis, yessheis, oooohhh, she’s soooo preeeeetty!”. Nope, that’s not how I roll around babies. I usually don’t roll around babies at all, but definitely not like that! (more…)

Grapefruit

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

You know those days when you wake up thinking ‘Today is the first day of the rest of my life, man. I am going to start it with a healthy breakfast’. And then you walk to the fridge, open it and remember why you never actually eat anything healthy: It’s just too much darn work. (more…)

Bosses and Bossesses

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Bosses and their female colleagues, bossesses, are funny little things, now, aren’t they? The things they do… (please picture me smiling to myself and benevolently shaking my head). (more…)
